International Day Of A Girl Child 2020

International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

The theme for this year is ‘My voice our equal Future”

In the world at large, we’ve seen diverse inequality between the boy child and the girl child.

Some culture even denied a girl child the right to education and properties and in the process she loses her voice.  @karisandeleos Hands of Hope Foundation, Our vision is to empower women and girls. To see to it that every girl child have a fair chance in becoming her best version.

During our training and visits to communities, we have been opportune to meet and train some younger girls but these two stood out for us.

Story 1

Linda (not her real name)  a 12 year old JSS 1 student, who’d to drop out of school because her mom  was involved in an accident that made her handicapped at the moment.  Being the bread winner of the family, Linda had to give up on her dream of becoming a lawyer because her Dad couldn’t afford the fees. She shared her story with us and the foundation enrolled her back to school on scholarship.

Story 2

Mudiat (not her real name) a 14year old student and shoe maker  shared her story of being a shoe maker with so much confidence even at that younger age and she will like to learn more about the skills, One of our partners posted her story and she got a monetary support.

These ladies raised their voices for help and they are creating their future.

Special thanks to our facilitators who partner with us to mentor these younger girls, their contribution can’t be overemphasized. From counseling to teaching, educating and getting them aware of the world they live in.

In celebration of the International day of a girl child, we join all women and girls all over the world to reinstate the fact that we all need our voices together so we can build the future we desire.

Together, let us encourage gender equality, empower a girl child, support when we can and never bring girl child self-esteem down.
