Global Recycling Day 2023

PROJECT SUMMARY –

On June 22nd, Karis and Eleos Foundation, through its Trash2Wealth initiative, celebrated Global Recycling Day 2023 by organizing a Recycling Competition for secondary schools in Lagos State. This event aimed to inspire environmental sustainability and creativity among young students. With a total cash prize of 500,000 NGN, the competition rewarded the top three innovative projects that showcased exceptional recycling and upcycling skills.

Adesanmi Rachael from Faith Point Private School, Idimu, emerged as the overall winner with her innovative creation of block interlocks using PET bottles. Her project demonstrated a profound understanding of waste management and environmental sustainability. Adegboyega Arafat from Omole Senior Grammar School secured second place with her creative shopping basket made from plastic, earning a cash prize of 150,000 NGN. The third place was awarded to Oke Phillip from Ajumoni Senior Secondary School, who crafted a unique and durable swing from an unused vehicle tire, winning 100,000 NGN.

The competition highlighted the importance of repurposing materials to reduce waste and conserve resources. It fostered confidence and clarity in young participants about their future, all while promoting a safer and more sustainable environment.
